One of the perks of my job working with corporations and brands working in social media is the opportunity to work with bloggers all over the world! I’m very lucky in the aspect that the majority of my friends are some of these bloggers and through regular meet ups such as #edcm (edcm FB here & Twitter list here). I am constantly meeting new and interesting bloggers.

I was working on a piece of blogger outreach the other day and a blogger came back to me saying “Hi Darcie! It’s Fraser from #edcm! Small world!” As I had found Frasers blog through research and contacted him through the contact form, I hadn’t realised that he was one of the admins of the blog. This got me thinking – how many of you are running blogs that I don’t know about?! I would love to be able to approach those I already have an established relationship with when an opportunity arises, as well as continuously growing my database of new blogs (not just for outreach opportunities, but for personal interest as well!).

So here’s what I’ve done/am doing: I’ve developed my first Google Docs form – which was super easy & quite exciting – and now I am asking anyone who is interested in being contacted for possible blogger outreach opportunities by myself or members of my team at bigmouthmedia & LBi, to please click on the form and fill in your details. Just to make sure there is no confusion: By submitting your details you are saying that you are happy to be added to an internal database and to be contacted by myself or my colleagues at bigmouthmedia & LBi.

I will leave this form live for new additions and am happy for the url to be passed on.

…and a shitload of fun!

Just over two months ago, a friend of mine from university, Renee McMahon went on a massive road trip around the states with her her Penguin Terry and created an amazing online presence surrounding her adventures.

Entitled The Aimless Penguin, Renee filmed over 30 videos, all of which will have you on the floor laughing. Her creativity seems to have no idea and you never know what idea she’s going to come up with next.

Using online tools such as Twitter (@aimlesspenguin), Facebook, YouTube, the Aimless Penguin Site & Blog, she was able to keep everyone informed & entertained, including polls and donations for caffeine (and your own Aimless Penguin memorabilia!).

When I first looked at what Renee had done I was in awe of both her ambition, the travelling and how seamlessly it was all put together. Thank you for sharing such a great adventure (and helping me feel a bit more at home on the 4th of July!).

Most of you are familiar with my appreciation of PostSecret and how I truly believe in its ability to bring people together and to help a person become better to themselves, which is the most important step to becoming a better person for other people. Believing in oneself.

This is a nice video showing a bit of Frank, the creator and secret receiver, at an event as well as combining some postcards and emotion, showing a bit of what I believe hundreds of thousands of people around the world are sharing with me every Sunday morning with my cup of coffee.

PostSecret are trying to organise a London event, but I don’t believe the publishers have seen it as a fruitful market yet. A few years ago I sent an e-mail suggesting they come to the Edinburgh Book Festival – which had the likes of Chuck Palahniuk and many others this year. Will keep my fingers crossed for the future.

I’ve been disappointed of late by human kind. Yes, even more so than my normal misanthropic confusion with the way people behave themselves.

Without going into too much detail about circumstances and events, I’ve just been shocked to see how people, that I looked up to in a sense, behave in a way that I never would. Now, don’t get me wrong. I often behave in ways I wish I wouldn’t – and they usually involve alcohol, but I am talking about a different set of behaviours; such as listening when someone is speaking. You remember the rules, the ones that were just normal before all the political correct hoopla, when it was just being polite.

I don’t care how successful you are, who you work for, how old you are or even if you absolutely despise someone. Be polite. It just amazes me when I see people older than myself behave worse than the teenagers on the streets, then complain about the latter. Take a look in the mirror mate.

What added to my feelings of distaste this weekend was when I wandered onto one of my favourite blogs, Scamp, a CD from BBH, London. I thoroughly enjoy reading his posts and many of his “guest writers” for his ‘Tuesday Tips’ series; however, the comments are getting extremely out of hand.

All of these ‘anonymous’ commenters, who, according to a poll, mostly claim to be creatives and many refer to themselves at being ‘big’ in the industry. Since when did all of that a.) give you the right to be a cunt and b.) not give you the guts to at least put your name by your ignorance/opinion. Maybe they had to sell their soles to get to where they are today.

All & all what it has really made me think about is this: is this the type of person I am trying so hard to become?

I will continue to read Scamp’s posts daily, as I find them intriguing and inspiring, but as far as the comments go, I’ll leave those for Anon xⁿ.

What my blog – thus far – looks like according to this program. Pretty neat little ditty. Very beautiful actually, it resembles fireworks show or a lovely floral bouquet of Sunflowers and blue Pansies.

To a better year 2.

Can I?
I saw this on Iain Tait‘s blog and though I would go have a wee gander.

Deciding I needed a good kick up the arse to do stuff, I contemplated signing up. Yes, only contemplated. This is how difficult it is for me to commit to something. Why you ask, because I know me very well. I know my shadows. I know how they work. I will give it my all for a few days, then quit, then fail, then make up excuses, but at the same time know that I was just lazy and allowed myself to become distracted.

So 24 hrs later, still procrastinating from doing other things. I signed up. Although, most of the people seem to knit and they seem to already have planned what they’re going to do… Again, I was hoping to be told. To be forced out of my comfort zone.

Does creating ads for my book count, which I should be doing anyhow? Or is that cheating.

This will be character building, that’s for sure. Time to learn how to draw me thinks… So if you see some really bad posts in the month of February, you now know why.
